Marco Maggioni, Computer Science PhD student won 1st place in the graduate Physical Sciences/Engineering/Computer Science/Mathematics division of the 2012 UIC Student Research Forum. for his presentation “Computational Kinship Reconstruction in Wild Populations Using ILP Optimization on GPU Architectures”.

Human Related Research

If you have any people involved in your thesis research, please indicate this to Lynn Thomas ASAP!

An example of having people involved in your work: tracking people’s eye movements as they read the screen content… that counts as having human subjects!

There are policies about the use of humans in research (yes, even non-medical) and there are forms that must be filled out for the UIC Office of Protection for Research Subjects [OPRS]. This link should give you some idea of the requirements that the professors and students must adhere to and the restrictions on human subject research here at UIC.

Women in Computer Science (WiCS) @ UIC

WiCS @ UIC is a branch of the Computer Science Graduate Student Association.
WICS organizes several events, e.g. WiCS lunch and tea are a gathering of all the women undergrads, grads and faculty in the CS dept. to share ideas, network, socialize and plan future collaborations like gaming contests or outreach events.
